Muscle tissue

Muscle tissue is a soft tissue that makes up the muscles in animals, and gives the ability of muscles to contract. It is also referred to as myopropulsive tissue. This is opposed to other components or tissues in muscle such as tendons or perimysium. It is formed during embryonic development through a process known as myogenesis. Skeletal muscle tissue consists of elongated muscle cells called muscle fibers. Skeletal muscle tissue is responsible for movements of the body. Muscles contain special proteins called contractile protein which contract and relax to cause movement.
