Quick Tips

Many user questions regarding registration, claiming, or editing of scholar profiles fall into one of the following categories listed below. Please read the Quick Tips to see if they answer your question.

1- How do I register and claim my profile?

To register, click the "Register" button at the top right of the ScholarGPS® homepage and follow the instructions. Registration is required before you can claim your profile. Once registered, click the "Claim" button at the top right of your profile page and follow the instructions. If you register using your institutional email address, you can automatically claim your profile. Otherwise, you will need to follow the information provided to you during the claiming process.

2- What information on my profile can I edit?

Upon registering and claiming your profile for free, you have the ability to make various edits, such as modifying your affiliation and affiliation history, changing disciplines, and managing archival publications by adding or deleting them as appropriate. Once you have registered and claimed your profile, you can merge any multiple profiles if appropriate (see Quick Tips (3) below) that belong to you by submitting a merge request using the request link at the top right-hand side of your claimed profile. In addition, you may elect to delete up to four specialties from your profile. If you wish to change your name in your profile, you can request such a change using the request form linked at the top right-hand corner of your profile page. You may also add or delete publications from your profile following the guidelines given in Quick Facts (4) below.

3- How do I merge profiles if there are several profiles associated with me?

First, register and claim your profile with the highest number of publications. Then, complete and submit a simple request form (link on the top right of your claimed profile) to merge all profiles associated with you. See the Quick Facts 2 above ("What information on my profile can I edit?") and 4 below ("How can I add to, or delete publications from my profile?") for instructions on accomplishing certain basic profile editing tasks.

4- How can I add to, or delete publications from my profile?

Add and delete buttons are only available in your profile after you register and claim your profile.
They appear on the top of your publication list on your profile page.

You can only add archival publications to your profile that are already in our database using the "add" button. There are certain restrictions when adding publications to profiles. See FAQs: FAQs: Why are some publications not in the list of publications on my profile page?

You can also delete duplicate publications, or publications that are not yours using the "delete" button on your profile page. You should also delete publications from your profile page that are not of an archival nature.

Your total publications, citations, and h-index are recalculated and updated instantly upon removing or adding publications to your profile. However, changes associated with your rankings are not implemented in the scholar rankings tables until the next iteration of rankings.

5- Why are my total publications or citations different from other platforms?

Other platforms such as Google Scholar or Research Gate include non-archival publications, such as reports, editorials, and other non-peer-reviewed articles, along with citations associated with these types of publications. ScholarGPS® also does not include publications with more than 20 authors in scholar profiles. Unlike many other platforms, ScholarGPS® exclusively focuses on archival peer reviewed publications and associated citations.

6- Where can I get more information about all important aspects of ScholarGPS®?
